Justification:
Widespread, although not abundant, in the middle and lower Zambezi and southern associated systems. Appears to have declined in the middle Zambezi but does not fall within endangered criteria.

Population: Never as common as D. schenga and has declined in the middle Zambezi reaches since the two major dams were constructed.

Habitat and Ecology: Mainstream of larger rivers; usually in the deeper sections. Present in Lake Kariba.

Major Threat(s): Has declined in parts of the middle Zambezi in Zimbabwe, probably through the effects of damming.
