Scientific Name: Bathyclarias gigas
Species Authority: Jackson, 1959
Taxonomic Notes: M. Banda (unpublished) proposes that this species is conspecific with Bathyclarias worthingtoni. The type specimens for both species were examined and could not be distinguished. B. gigas was described by the suprabranchial organ based on the structure which Banda (unpublished) notes is not a valid key character.

Habitat and Ecology: This species is thought to be the largest member of the genus. It is reported to occur in both rocky and intermediate habitats. During the daytime it hides in small caves or sand-scrape nests beneath rocks. It feeds on sleeping cichlids and other fishes during the night. Max. size: 150 cm.
