Not observed since 1982. Possibly present in, as yet unsurveyed, parts of the lake or its satellites. If it still exists it is probably in a very small population.

Range Description: Endemic to Lake Victoria. Originally known from Butimba and Nyegezi Bays of the Mwanza gulf but has since disappeared.

Population: Not reported since 1982 (Witte et al. 1992) and not reported in the 1990 to 1996 collections (Seehausen et al. 1998) or the 1997 to 1999 collections Witte et al. (2000). Finally, still not reported in the 2000 to 2003 collections (Bayona et al. submitted) or the 2001 to 2002 collections (Mrosso et al. in press).
