Justification:
Population has declined by more than 90% over the past 20 years, due to predation/competition from the introduced Nile Perch Lates niloticus, eutrophication and increased sedimentation throughout Lake Victoria. The species has not been recorded since 1987 but may still be present in very small numbers in unsurveyed parts of the lake.
