Justification:
It has a restricted range (extent of occurrence less than 100 km² and area of occupancy less than 10 km²) at Nygezi South Rocks (Mrosso et al. in press). This marks a significant decline in distribution most likely due to predation by the Nile Perch, eutrophication and sedimentation causing loss of habitat and decline in habitat quality. These impacts remain ongoing.

Range Description: Originally distributed across several rocky sites in Lake Victoria in the Mwanza gulf prior to colonization by the Nile perch. It declined during the eighties (Seehausen 1996) and it now thought to be restricted to the Nyegezi South Rocks.

Habitat and Ecology: The habitat preference of this species has changed from sand, shingle and rocky substrates to rocky habitats. It feeds predominantly on juvenile cichlids but also takes large insect larvae and plant tissue.
