Justification:
Harrison and Stiassny (1999) considered this species to be possibly extinct. The matter was referred to the Freshwater Fish Specialist Group for a decision. However, recent records indicate ther species is still extant.

Habitat and Ecology: Found in shallow, exposed sandy beaches, over a hard substrate situated a short distance off-shore near the water lily zone fringing a papyrus swamp.
