Rivulets and streams 3-10 m wide and less than 1 m deep in foothills and plains, sometimes in channels. Usually on gravel, rarely on sand bottom. Usually along steep banks.

Major Threat(s): Water abstraction in particular in Iran, dams, channelization of the lower courses and drought (predicted to increase in severity due to climate change).
